History: Tanglepaw was born into a family of kittypets with her sister Rose and brother Sweet. They were, how should we say, normal. Nothing too much of importance happened to them, nothing too large or nothing too small. Tangle, being young, didn't understand how grateful that she should have been -- being blinded by young age, she simply continued to live life playing with her siblings.
At least everything was normal. For a little while.
Around the time they were two to three moons, the brother of the family, Sweet, had gone missing. It was hard to say that he wouldn't be back -- Tangle, being herself, didn't really think of it as much. He was probably just out attempting to be an imaginary forest cat or try to catch his own prey. The small, calico kitten didn't think of it; or she tried not to, at least.
Another day rolled around; she sat on the edge of the fence, age starting to grow a little on her as she raised up a moon. Her size was beginning to increase as well as the size of her mind -- more knowledge of being able to be stored there and her wisdom was starting to make itself apparent. She was curious as to where her brother had gone as instead of a simple month or two trying her best not to think upon the matter. But it came obvious to her -- nobody was going to try and figure it out. She had to do it herself.
It was then that her eyes filled with a spark of determination that's seen often when she does little tasks. She jumped from her fence, with her mouth open to catch any scent at all. Her gaze widened as she suddenly caught the stale scent of her brother, wandering out into the forest. No cats venture this way; thankfully Sweet had done so. Though she had never tried to trail a scent before, the determination to solve this once and for all was nipping at her heals. It was something that had to be over and done with.
The scent was getting stronger and stronger, feet starting to break into a run. She wasn't going to let this go, she had to find him, had to see if he was okay if he was--
Her feet stopped in place as she saw what was lying in front of her. Her fur stood on end, tail stood straight out behind her, ears pinned back, eyes wide. The horrid stench of rot filled the small area.
Before her paws lay her brother, flesh rotting from his bone, eyes milky and deteriorating.
Taking a step back, Tangle quickly looked for an escape route, but only backed up into the bark of a tree. Part of his skull was visible underneath the tearing skin that was now probably as weak as a piece of paper. Tangle set off running in the other direction, not knowing where she was going, not really caring, either.
She kept running, she didn't know for how long. She'd lost count of how many times she'd seen the sun rise. She'd stop along the way and eat a few berries, but that was about it. Barely drank, barely slept -- the pain of seeing that kept gnawing at her, refusing to leave her heart alone. From now on she would be tormented.
The running continued until her legs gave out; the calico fell to her side, panting, eyes closed. Before she knew it, she had drifted to sleep.
Once the emerald green eyes opened up once again, they had new sights to take in. Instead of waking up to the normal, cream-colored room that she was so used to back in her housefolk's home, she was now looking at trees swaying and dancing as the win wafted around the higher areas, a bright, an endless, blue sky, a sun casting down its light onto the world, and a lovely amount of mist in the air as if it had just rained. It took Tangle a moment to get her bearings, but she was soon sitting up, finding herself in a small, closed in area, her few just being able to see out of the hole that was obviously it's entrance and exit.
Pine trees enclosed the whole area -- cats were here, sitting and talking to each other. She blinked her eyes a few times, getting to her paws, as shaky as she was. As she took a pawstep out of the den, she heard a voice...
